This legacy app is no longer maintained and has been superseded by a completely rewritten NodeJS app from aazapp, StringWizard.
We highly recommend that you use the new application, which offers a much more robust character-capturing algorithm, as well as many new features.
However, Filename Cleaner will continue to work for users that are currently using it.
Have you already encountered issues when posting a file to a webserver for download? Special character issue? Difficult URL to read?
Have you already encountered issues when transfering files from platform to platform (e.g. Mac to Windows)?
Filename Cleaner will convert your original filename to something which will not cause any issue on another platform or a webserver.
It will convert your filename to lowercase and remove or convert all spaces or reserved characters to a dash or an underscore.
But more than this, it will take care of diacritics* and ligatures and replace them by their equivalent without alteration.
* a diacritic is a glyph added to a letter that somehow alters its pronunciation and which appears above, below, within or between letters — French uses five diacritics: the grave, acute, and circumflex accents, as well as the cedilla and dieresis.
If you need more control on Filename Cleaner settings, as well as have access to more features, such as truncation and metadata embedding, you should try Filename Cleaner Pro, also available on Enfocus’ Appstore.
