Configure communication preferences

In the Switch Edit > Preferences dialog box, click the Internal communication option:

  1. Set the Server name preference to an appropriate name for this instance of Switch. This name is shown to SwitchClient users to differentiate between multiple Switch instances.

Note that this name is distinct from the host name of the computer that runs Switch. SwitchClient expects the host name to be entered on the Connect panel, but displays the application's server name in its various data tables.

  2. Set the Port for Switch client preference to an appropriate value. SwitchClient expects the port to be entered on the Connect panel when connecting to a new server. Leave this setting at its default value (51008) unless users understands why they need to change it.
  3. Set the Secure SwitchClient communication preference to "Yes" if you want communication with SwitchClient to use the secure https protocol (introducing a performance overhead of approximately 20%); otherwise leave it at the default value "No". SwitchClient automatically adjusts to this preference setting.
